    Dead Cats

We are sorry to announce that due to Covid within the cast Proto-type’s Dead Cats has been cancelled.
All tickets will be refunded or exchanged.

    THU 27th Oct. | Full £12 | Conc. £8

In rooms like this room people lie. Not little lies, the kinds of lies that kill people, or worse…

In this room, or in rooms like this room, they use phrases like collateral damage, like extraordinary rendition, like perception management. They cover up their dirty words with clean ones, in rooms like this room. In rooms like this room they redact the names.

In rooms like this room, language is laundered. The name of the game is spin.

Dead Cats blends new writing, performance, film-making, and an obvious plant, to show – not tell – the truths behind the fictions.

Dead Cats is part of Proto-type’s critically acclaimed Truth to Power Project – a socially engaged exploration of power, democracy, truth- telling, protest, privacy, conspiracy, and control.

“This is coolly reasoned theatre, produced by Proto-type Theater with stylish  aplomb.”

    Lyn Gardner, The Guardian

“Proto-type’s team have such imagination and clarity of vision… a great antidote to [a] tangled political landscape”

    Bert & Nasi

The End, Bert & Nasi, photo by Richard Perryman

    The End

    Thu 14 Oct 7.30pm | Full £12 | Conc £8 | Age 16+

In this new piece, Bert and Nasi dance the end of their relationship, imagining what a future without each other might look like.

Above the stage and projected onto a screen, two parallel narratives run alongside each other: the end of the Earth and the end of their collaboration. In the vein of their previous work, it is a poignant, sad and funny account of the ongoing ecological crisis. Their dance is a reminder and a celebration of our own mortality, and that of everything around us.

Time unravels and stretches on into infinity, but the end has never seemed closer

    Lyn Gardner, Stagedoor.

Both insistently silly and unreservedly heart-rending

    Super Duper Close Up

    Thu 18 Nov 7.30pm | Full £12 | Conc £8 | Age 16+

We’re all starring in the movie of our life. Selfie after selfie, post after post. It’s exhausting. So take a break. Bask in the glow of the big screen as someone else has a go. See the heroine all dewy-eyed as the camera zooms in. And in. And in.

Get set for a live-filmed ride through the anxieties of an unsettlingly ordinary woman’s existence. An epic journey to everywhere and nowhere, through a labyrinth of click-bait and pop cliché, via an infinite stream of frozen pouts and desperate smiles.

    The Sleeping Trees

Sleeping Trees Western, Mark Dawson Photography 2021

    Western

    Thu 16 Sep 7.30pm | Full £12 | Conc £8 | Age 15+

The Sleeping Trees continue their decimation of the big screen and bring you another sordid tale, this time from the sandy depths of the Wild West.

The show follows unlikely hero Harry Sudds as a simple trip to the town bank quickly descends into the worst day of his life. Before he knows it he’s confronted by native Indians, talking wasps and one of the most majestic tumbleweeds ever seen in the west. With another rip roaring live score, The Sleeping Trees bring their fast, physical and farcical comic style to one of the most well loved film genres of all time.

Not a cue was missed in a show where they come roughly every five seconds

    The List ★★★★

With a script that steers left field of convention and indulges every whim, Sleeping Trees have created a lawless comedic style of their own

    The Undefinable by She Goat

    The Undefinable

    THU 12 MAR 2020 | Full £12 | Conc £8 | 7.30pm | AGE 16 +

Live radio gig-theatre about unconventional relationships and the underrepresented qualities of love.

Two dudes. Well, kind of dudes. A garage studio. A late night broadcast.  Time slips between noughties love-pop, 70s folk fever and 18th century French philosophy. The dudes slip between instruments. Everything gets tangled.  Our kind of love is tangled and slippery. Love in the in-between. Love that doesn’t have language yet.  This is the Undefinable.

Clear the decks for historical wigs, irreverent nudity, reckless dancing, and a whole lot of coffee – as we embark on a queer-platonic mix-tape into the unknown future and forgotten past of doing love differently.

      ‘surreally funny…delightful playfulness’

‘completely engrossing – both Pastor and Turner are incredibly multi-talented’
